A community-interaction programme with elected people?s representatives, Thrissur Range
Based on the results and feedback from the District-level community-focused projects implemented in the District of Thrissur, attempts were made to extend this experience to the other nearby Districts as well. "Swaraksha Sahayakendram"
Helpline for Women and Children
Under the leadership of Dr B Sandhya IPS, the DIG of Police (Thrissur Range), a special Police Helpline number for Women and Children was set up in each of the three Districts of Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram. This telephone centre, manned round-the-clock by a team of trained women police personnel, enabled members of the weaker and vulnerable sections of the community to call for and avail of prompt assistance from police personnel at the nearest police station. On a large number of occasions, the facility was found to be beneficial to such needy members
of the community, especially at night-time. An awareness campaign with specially developed multimedia materials such as posters, bumper stickers and wallet cards were made use of to publicize the existence of the facility. (launch of programme: Sep 2006)
