"Nammude Police Namukku Vendi"
For Kerala Police, Thrissur District
This District-wide outreach programme of the Thrissur Police was carried out with the support and involvement of elected people?s representatives of the District. As part of this programme, special interaction meetings were arranged between senior police officers and local elected people?s representatives from the local self government bodies, such as Block and Gramapanchayaths. In most places, this was the first time in the history of policing in
Kerala that local people?s representatives and police officials met to discuss solutions to local issues affecting the public, in a non-confrontational setting. A significant feature of such meetings, usually held at the initiative of the senior police officers in a given area, was the high percentage of attendance by the invitees, indicating a great degree of interest among the people?s representatives in working closely with the police. (February 2004 onwards)
