 SP's Editorials - 2002 October

11 Oct 2002

Dear friend,

After my last communication, there was some preoccupation for me, which prevented prompt further communication.

Since then, police had done some commendable work. You may have come across them in the Newspapers. One Rajendran, a notorious vehicle thief was caught by SI Mannuthy and a number of theft cases were detected. A gang of temple thieves were arrested by DySP - Crime Detachment and about forty old temple cases were detected. Again another vehicle thief was caught by CI Kunnamkulam and fourteen stolen vehicles were recovered. This month another gang of temple thieves were arrested by a Special Squad under DySP - Narcotic Cell and forty old cases were detected. A number of stolen idols were recovered from them.

In spite of all these things the action of rowdy elements and rowdy gangs could not be completely controlled. A number of people being sponsored by Chitty operators for extracting money from defaulters and also by vehicle loan companies for seizing of vehicles of loan defaulters are incessantly adding to the rowdy gangs. The above mentioned people turn into fresh gangs of vehicle thieves and rowdy gangs as the case may be when they gain enough experience. In this matter correct information from the general public and their unstinted cooperation are require for the police to successfully handle the menace.

Due to persistent police action, the rowdy menace on the common public could be controlled to a great extent. Recently, the rowdy gangs were attacked each other and caused two murder cases one each at Irinjalakuda and Pudukad. These cases have been fully detected and one a few arrests remain.

Anyhow we, the Thrissur District Police are dedicated to suppress this menace and we solicit the full hearted cooperation of the discerning public in this connection.

Even though the agitation about the hike in Electricity charges is expected in the coming days, I wish the public a very Happy "Navarathri".

With regards …

Dear friend,

Here we meet once again through the weekly editorial page.

You know the policemen are carrying out duties without regard to time, whether it is day or night, raining or shining etc. Therefore they get very little time to look after their family. As a result the welfare measures of the policemen and their family is also the lookout of the Department.

In this direction the Government and the Department had been doing a lot recently. These are in the matter of enhancing the convenience in the police station, providing new vehicles including motor cycles, construction of more quarters for those living with family and bachelors those in the camps. It is sincerely hoped that these measures will definitely improve the worship condition and working environment of the constabulary who form the entire activities of the department depends. This will in turn increase their outcome and also change their perspective. Their reaction to the public will also improve there by enabling the Department to provide better and meaningful service to the people.

Hope to meet you again soon,

G. Janardhanan Nair IPS

Dear friend,

Glad to interact with you again. As I have already stated, we are now concentrating on the interaction between the police and public. We have been impressing upon the police officers and men the necessity to behave police towards public . All the while action have to careful and firm. That is why our motto is appropriately "Mridu bhave, Drida Krithya". That is, polite and gentle behaviour and strong in action. We hope that if we dole out polite behavior in sufficient qualities continuously, the police would automatically change their attitude and stand behaving back in a polite and helpful manner.

While visiting I have been stressing this point and reiterating the advantageous of the same. I think by and by you all will feel the change in the attitude.

Even though I have called for suggestions (lawful of course) in bringing down the rowdy menace, responses are slow in coming. Is our public so tolerant of goonda menace? Or we becoming so complacent as to allow these things to continue? or we are so afraid? Please respond..

With regards …
