 SP's Editorials - 2002 July

10th July 2002

Dear friend,

Welcome back to www.thrissurpolice.com. I am glad to know that this weekly message is being seen and appreciated by many of you, going by the feedbacks I am receiving through the website. As I mentioned last week, it is my aim to inculcate a sense of civic responsibility and a positive attitude towards society among the younger generation by interacting with them as often as I can. This website enables me to communicate with them by making use of the facilities of the Internet. I invite all of you to make use of this facility by sending me your concerns and views on matters of public interest. I shall do my best to resolve all such issues promptly.

It is almost a year since this website was officially launched by the Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala Sri A.K. Antony on August 26, 2001. Since then, it has been our continuous effort to make this website useful and interesting for the benefit of the public. I am glad to share with you the information that most of the messages received through the site have been positive and very supportive of this effort. A survey conducted among visitors to this site has revealed that about 60% of our visitors are Non-resident Keralites based abroad. Clearly, this project has been well appreciated, although there have been instances where the responses to some complaints have not been as prompt as we would have liked. One of the reasons for this is the newness of the Internet technologies, which some of our people are not able to pick up easily. However, I am sure that we will be able to overcome these shortcomings without much delay and to ensure that we respond to your concerns efficiently and promptly. In the meantime, please do bear with us and give us your support. Together, we can move towards creating a better society for our younger generation.

Please do send me your messages and suggestions on possible improvements to this website. I look forward to hearing from you.

With regards,

G. Janardhanan Nair IPS
Superintendent of Police.

Dear friend,

The Onam Season has already started. It is time to see that we take proper precaution to escape from the clutches of their and such other bad characters who are getting ready to start their thing in earnest. For this we have gone to the press with some suggestions for the people who go out from their houses for enjoying the holidays.

1) Don't keep too much cash or ornaments in your house.
2) Keep all doors and windows closed.
3) Avoid collection of paper before the house indicative of the absence of the house holders.
4) Avoid use of other types of locks in the front doors to avoid the advertises the absence of the house-owner and fit padlocks to the front doors atleast.
5) Don't keep implements like chopper, axes etc outside the house which can be used as implements by the thieves.
6) If you leave vehicles outside house it has only minimum fuel inside and see to it that the vehicle does not start easily.
We are also taking actions to see that we put behind bars the maximum number of pickpockets and petty criminals so that employees getting bonus and other allowances can take it safely to their houses.

We are also devising methods to reduce vehicle thefts. You can expect some useful suggestions next week

With regards,

G. Janardhanan Nair IPS
Superintendent of Police.
